Destination ImagiNation® (DI) is an exhilarating educational program in which students work in teams to solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments. DI challenges incorporate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), plus the arts and service learning. Participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the creative problem solving process.
DI teams from ISM have taken top honors at Regional, State, and Global Finals Tournaments. Any ISM student in kindergarten through grade 12 is welcome to join a team and tackle one of 7 extraordinary team challenges. ISM has four teams this season and we hope to add more. Our kindergarten and 6th grade teams currently have openings for new members.
What does a team do?
Starting in November, teams meet once a week to work together to solve their team challenge. Only the students on the team may work on their team challenge, giving them total ownership of their solution. Teams present their solution as a performance and solve an Instant Challenge (on-the-spot problem) at the Minnesota Southwest Metro Regional Tournament at the end of February. Advancing teams compete at the Minnesota State Tournament in mid-April. The best teams from around the world meet at Destination Imagination Global Finals in May.
