Students in Grades 1-12 participate in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program which promotes and fosters the habit of reading and the love of literature. Through AR, students’ reading levels are systematically assessed during the school year.  The program involves four simple steps: 

• select and read a book in his/her reading range
• takes a computerized AR quiz on that book
• quiz results are added to the student’s AR record and the student receives an AR report
• students earn points related to their reading success 

The school library contains more than 15,000 AR books. In addition, quizzes are available on more than 140,000 books.  Students work with teachers to set reading goals and are then supported and encouraged through many exciting incentives to reach that goal. Also available is Renaissance Home Connect, where students and parents can log into the Renaissance Learning site at home to see quiz results and to keep track of goals and deadlines.  The program is so effective, particularly with emergent readers, because it is personalized to each student’s current reading level and interests.  With this program in place, it is easy to build a culture of reading throughout the school year and to instill a lifelong love of learning through reading!
